Lighea · Sicilia Zibibbo DOC 2023

  Donnafugata's Lighea white wine is a pure expression of the Zibibbo variety, cultivated on the island of Pantelleria—a windswept terraced landscape with lava-rich soil and the “Alberello-Pantesco” vine training system, which is recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The name “Lighea” is a poetic reference to the siren of the same name in the novel “The Leopard,” and the label reflects this myth with its elaborate design. Cool sea breezes, intense sunshine, and volcanic soil create a wine that presents a fine balance of lightness and origin.

In the glass, Lighea is a light straw yellow with greenish reflections—a visual reflection of Mediterranean freshness. The nose reveals delicate notes of orange blossom, lemongrass, and citrus fruits, along with hints of tropical fruits such as lychee. On the palate, the fruity and floral aromas combine with a lively texture, a noticeable freshness, and a clean, mineral finish—a wine that reflects the sun, wind, and stone of the island of Pantelleria in the glass and is excellent as an accompaniment to seafood, vegetable tempura, or as a light aperitif. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
