Gröbner · St. Magdalener DOC 2023

  The “Gröbner” St. Magdalener Classico from the Kaltern Winery is an elegant representative of South Tyrolean winemaking, reflecting the region around Lake Kaltern in its purest form. The vines thrive on heat-retaining, porphyry-rich soils in the classic St. Magdalena vineyard near Bolzano, where the mild climate and southern exposure provide ideal conditions for the grapes to ripen. The cuvée consists of 90% of the indigenous Vernatsch grape variety (also known as Schiava) and 10% Lagrein, which gives the wine its characteristic fruitiness and structure. After classic maceration, the wine matures for up to 12 months in large oak barrels, giving it additional depth and complexity.

In the glass, the “Gröbner” St. Magdalener Classico presents itself in an intense ruby red with garnet red reflections. The bouquet unfolds aromas of ripe cherries, violets, and a subtle hint of bitter almonds, which is typical of the Vernatsch grape. On the palate, the wine is fruity with a velvety body and fine tannins that give it structure without detracting from its elegance. The finish is present and persistent, making this St. Magdalener an ideal accompaniment to classic South Tyrolean dishes such as dumplings, pasta dishes, or a simple snack platter.
