Vial · Weißburgunder DOC 2020

  The “Vial” Pinot Bianco from the Kaltern Winery is a prime example of the elegance and clarity that this classic South Tyrolean wine has to offer. The grapes come from the large vineyard of the same name, “Vial,” an east-facing vineyard at an altitude of around 500 meters between Kaltern-Mitterdorf and St. Nikolaus. Here, the vines benefit from cool nights and morning sun, which leads to slow and even ripening. The soils are characterized by calcareous gravel, which gives the wine a fine minerality—an echo of the “sound of the sea,” as the winery itself poetically describes it.

In the glass, the “Vial” presents itself in a brilliant yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet unfolds aromas of ripe pears, apples, and delicate herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with a well-integrated acidity and a mineral note that characterizes the finish. This Pinot Blanc is a harmonious accompaniment to light dishes such as fish, poultry, or fresh salads and reflects the high level of craftsmanship of the Kaltern winery. - Gerardo [TS10/21]
