Huck am Bach · St. Magdalener Classico DOC 2024

  The grapes for “Huck am Bach” come from steep slopes between 250 and 500 meters above sea level in the classic vineyards of St. Magdalena above Bolzano. The soils are characterized by gravel and moraine debris, which ensures excellent drainage and at the same time stores heat. Vernatsch and a small proportion of Lagrein thrive on these slopes, together producing a medium-bodied red wine that captivates with fruity and floral notes—violets, roses, red cherries, and raspberries—and carries a typical bitter almond or marzipan aroma. Traditional fermentation and aging in large oak barrels result in a full, velvety body with a pleasantly harmonious finish.

The name “Huck am Bach” refers to the winery of the same name, whose south-facing slopes near St. Magdalena are known for producing excellent grapes. These vineyards are considered to be among the oldest in South Tyrol. According to the family chronicle, the “Huck farm” has existed for generations; the addition of “am Bach” probably refers to a nearby stream or small watercourse that once supplied the vineyards with water or served as a distinctive landmark. Thanks to its geographical and historical roots, the wine is not only a product of the terroir, but also a piece of living South Tyrolean winegrowing tradition. - Gerardo [TS10/25]
