  The “Freienfeld” Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva from the Kurtatsch Winery is a wine steeped in heritage and tradition—named after the historic Freienfeld estate, where the winery was founded in 1900. This line is only bottled in exceptional vintages, which underscores the exclusivity and care that goes into the project. The vines are rooted in south-facing sites in Kurtatsch on permeable dolomite-limestone and gravel soils, which form the backbone of this wine with their mineral notes and alpine influence. In the cellar, it undergoes a specific vinification process: after fermentation, it is carefully aged in barriques and large wooden barrels, resulting in a harmonious interplay of depth, structure, and elegance.

In the glass, Freienfeld displays a dense ruby red color with garnet red glints, a visual promise of its concentration. The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrants, cassis, and sour cherries, accompanied by a subtle herbal bouquet of laurel, peppermint, and Mediterranean forests—an expression of its alpine origins. On the palate, it fascinates with its supple tannin structure, juicy fruit, and elegant length; a salty mineral note on the finish hints at the stony terroir.
