The permeable, chalky vineyard terraces produce a unique spicy-peppery mountain wine that impressively reflects its 'terroir'. The bouquet is reminiscent of tangerines, yellow peach wedges, pears and fresh apples. The salty finish duets with the stimulating fruit charm to create a magical balance and a beguiling, lingering interplay of minerals and long berry fruit. - Gerardo [TS07/22]
Gerardo's Notes: The first 'pinot gris' vines were introduced from Burgundy by Archduke Johann of Austria in 1852. Generally, the Pinot Grigio vine thrives in the fertile plains. Remarkable and unique is the cultivation of Pinot Grigo in airy altitudes with precious long vegetation period. In the steep slopes of Penon (600 meters above sea level), the Pinot Grigio develops its dense firm body that is heartily drawn out by a dynamic acid structure. The spectacularly situated hamlet of Penon, at 500 to 700 meters above sea level, is subject to nightly cooling fall winds. The resulting very large temperature differences between day and night, together with the steep inclination of the vineyards, produce a distinctive Pinot Grigio with an extremely lively acid structure. The calcareous gravelly soils with low water-holding capacity are responsible for the unique salty mouthfeel of Pinot Grigio.
