Careful Kurtatscher care in the vineyard and cellar results in an intense and dark red wine from selected Lagrein lots, with rich, juicy tannins giving it a firm outline. The fleshy Lagrein fruit is accompanied by savory spicy notes. - Gerardo [TS07/20]
Gerardo's Notes: Lagrein is the oldest grape variety in South Tyrol. It thrives best on the deep, warm soils of Bolzano (Gries) and Unterlandl (Kurtatsch), which are formed from loamy-sandy and gravelly deposits of rivers and streams that break through porphyry, granite, mica schist and limestone mountains. The grape variety grows on sandy loam soils between 220 and 350 meters above sea level. These soils store heat during the day and release it at night, which is especially beneficial for the heat-loving grapes. The clay content in the soil is significant for the varietal spiciness of the wine.
