  The Merlot-Cabernet “Festival” from the Merano Winery combines two noble Bordeaux varieties in a harmonious South Tyrolean interpretation: the velvety Merlot brings fruity depth and soft texture, while the Cabernet provides structure, spice, and a long finish. Grown on porous weathered soils with a high gravel content on the slopes near Lagundo, Lana, and Marlengo, the vines benefit from the Alpine pre-Alpine climate—sun during the day, cool downdrafts at night—which keeps the freshness and origin clearly noticeable. Aging in used barriques and small oak barrels gives the wine additional backbone without losing sight of the varietal fruit.

In the glass, this cuvée displays a deep ruby red color with purple hues—a visual promise of its intensity and elegance. The nose opens with notes of blackcurrants and ripe cherries, accompanied by licorice, cocoa-like tones, and a subtle herbal spice that makes the mountain terroir audible. On the palate, the powerful fruit combines with smooth but present tannins and a salty minerality in the background - a wine that is a stylish accompaniment to game dishes, braised lamb or well-aged hard cheese, while also showing its class when enjoyed on its own. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
