Ghenos · Primitivo di Manduria DOC 2022

  The “Ghenos” Primitivo di Manduria from Cantine Torrevento embodies the warm, dry soul of southern Italy: grown on calcareous clay soils in the municipality of Manduria, where the vines ripen under the Mediterranean sun and the ancient Alberello training methods are deeply rooted. Careful hand harvesting and subsequent aging—partly in barrique wood—result in a wine that makes its origin palpable: concentration without exaggeration, depth without bulkiness.

In the glass, this wine displays an intense ruby red color with violet reflections, a visual harbinger of its refined origins. The nose opens with warm aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries, complemented by sweet orange peel, subtle coffee and vanilla notes, and a delicate spiciness reminiscent of cedar wood and spice smoke. On the palate, Ghenos impresses with its velvety structure, dense fruit notes, and well-integrated tannins that give the wine character and length. A complex accompaniment to braised lamb, game ragouts, or full-bodied cheeses—and at the same time a wine that brings the Apulian sun and the stony soil of its origin to life in the glass. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
