Torrevento | Puglia
The Torrevento winery today cultivates 400 hectares, stony karst soils on the high plateau of Murgia offer optimal conditions for cultivation, especially native grape varieties. Underground watercourses provide the ideal irrigation in a natural way. In addition, there is the Mediterranean climate with warm and dry summers and relatively cold winters. Since the vineyards, which are situated at an altitude of 400 to 600 meters, are only thirteen kilometers from the sea, the omnipresent wind ensures that the vines are evenly ventilated. It is precisely to this wind that the name Torrevento - Tower of the Wind - refers. The cantina, equipped with the latest technology, is hidden within the walls of a former 18th century Benedictine monastery. The complex also includes extensive rock cellars under the monastery, which provide optimal conditions for the aging and maturation of the wines. - Gerardo [TS09/22]
"The vineyards are located below Castel del Monte and the silhouette of the mysterious Frederician castle dominates the entire area. Because of this location, Francesco Liantonio and his staff must therefore feel more than others the responsibility to represent precisely this magical territory and the grape variety Nero di Troia, which is the hallmark of the profile of winemaking. - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
"In the very north of the Murgia lies the Torrevento estate, which the Liantonio family has maintained since 1948. Their vines grow at an average density of 4,500 vines per hectare on the limestone typical of the karst formation." - Gambero Rosso

Torrevento is located at the foot of Castel del Monte, a mysterious castle that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. The imposing fortress stands alone on the highest hill of the Murgia at an altitude of 540 meters and was built in the 13th century by the 'stupor mundi' Federico II. Its octagonal shape, which inspired the Torrevento logo, makes it unique in the world and refers to astrological and unique architectural connections.
Today, the winery cultivates an impressive 550 hectares. The stony karst soils on the high plateau of the Murgia create ideal conditions for the cultivation of indigenous grape varieties in particular. The Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and comparatively cold winters favors viticulture. As the vineyards are located only 13 kilometers from the sea at an altitude of 400 to 600 meters, the constant wind ensures that the vines are evenly ventilated. The name 'Torrevento' itself refers to this wind - the 'tower of the wind'.
The cantina, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is housed within the walls of a former Benedictine monastery dating back to the 18th century. The complex also includes extensive rock cellars under the monastery, which offer ideal conditions for the vinification and maturation of the wines.
Torrevento combines innovation and tradition in perfect harmony and pursues a development plan based on research and quality. The aim is to produce a range of wines that are representative of the Castel del Monte and Salento regions and the Primitivo grape variety. Torrevento wines are made from indigenous Apulian varieties such as Nero di Troia, Bombino Bianco, Aglianico, Moscato, Primitivo and Negroamaro - modern interpretations of ancient Apulian traditions. - Gerardo [TS01/24]
