The Cirò is a classic and probably the most famous wine of Calabria. It is produced in three versions - red, white and rose - and received DOC recognition as early as 1969. The most remarkable Cirò is certainly the Rosso Classico, from the Gaglioppo vine, which can be counted among the most beautiful red wines of Italy. - Gerardo [TS07/22]

Santa Venere | Calabria | Buy at Gerardo
The Scala family has owned the Santa Venere estate since 1600, and in 1990 they decided to bring the winery up to date. Thus, old vines were replaced when necessary and new vineyards were planted and the entire farm was converted to natural production. The winery was modernized and also moved to the rocky mountain. Great emphasis is placed on temperature-controlled vinification and storage. The use of ancient indigenous grape varieties reconnects with the origins of viticulture in Calabria. Santa Venere wines enjoy a good reputation, they also embody the typical characteristics of their region. Gaglioppo produces soft, balanced and full-bodied wines that are well structured and age well.
In the south of Italy thrives a prosperous agriculture. Orange groves, olive plantations and vineyards enrich the image of this peaceful region, which is predominantly dominated by mountain massifs. With its hot climate and vineyards, some of which are located at high altitudes, Calabria has excellent potential for viticulture. However, viticulture was brought to Magna Graecia (Great Greece) by the Greeks, to which Calabria also belonged. Mostly smaller producers use the potential of Calabria to produce high quality wine in manageable quantities. - Gerardo [TS07/22]
