Tommasi - Le Fornaci: The soul of Lugana
Lugana occupies a very special place in the world of Italian white wines: it is elegant, long-lasting and deeply rooted in its region of origin around Lake Garda. For the Tommasi family, Lugana is not just a wine - it is a passion, an expression of origin, craftsmanship and identity. With the Le Fornaci project, the traditional wine house has added a piece of this special terroir to its portfolio and given it a new dimension of excellence.

The first vines were planted on a five-hectare vineyard in Desenzano del Garda - named after a nearby archaeological site with a Roman kiln. Today, Tenuta Le Fornaci comprises around 45 hectares of vineyards, divided into three carefully selected sites. Two of them are located inland, the third in the immediate vicinity of the lake, not far from Sirmione. All the vineyards are planted exclusively with Turbiana, the local Trebbiano biotype.

Turbiana - character vine of Lake Garda
The Turbiana grape variety is at the heart of every Le Fornaci wine. Its characteristics - low yields, compact grapes and thick skin - make it ideal for the production of expressive, long-lasting wines characterized by their terroir. The climatic conditions in the southern Lake Garda region - with its mild temperatures, light breezes and gentle temperature differences - are perfect for this special grape.

The variety of soils, from loamy and silty near the lake to chalky and sandy inland, ensures complexity and complexity in the glass. Through targeted harvesting and vinification, Tommasi succeeds in achieving the optimum balance of freshness, structure and aromatic depth from the individual plots.

Two faces of a unique wine
The Le Fornaci wines show how different a wine based on the same grape variety can turn out - depending on ageing, style and maturity:

Le Fornaci Lugana DOC presents itself with accentuated freshness, fine aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. It is lively, balanced and mineral on the palate, with a clear line and immediate drinking pleasure. An ideal everyday wine with sophistication that is also a pleasure to drink young.

Le Fornaci Lugana DOC Riserva, on the other hand, shows the structured, profound side of Turbiana. Complex notes of ripe fruit, candied citrus fruit and fine balsamic accents dominate here. The wine matures partly in wood, which gives it body, substance and elegant ageing potential. A white wine with impressive length and character - made for special occasions.

The range is complemented by a fresh, modern rosato, which is perfect for the warmer months with its lightness, fine fruit and gentle spiciness. It is made from carefully selected grapes and brings a youthful, playful note to the otherwise classic Le Fornaci range.

Culinary versatility at the highest level
The wines from Le Fornaci are not only a pleasure to drink on their own, but are also extremely versatile in culinary terms. The classic Lugana DOC goes perfectly with fish dishes - whether grilled sea bream, smoked trout, ceviche or sushi. It is also an elegant accompaniment to vegetarian dishes, light pasta dishes or Bavarian classics such as potato salad with herbs.

The Riserva version harmonizes ideally with more aromatic dishes: Risotto with seafood, roasted veal, poultry or mild cheeses benefit from its depth and structure. Modern interpretations of German cuisine - such as baked char, tender Schäufele or veal in mustard sauce - are also stylishly complemented by this wine.

Rosato, on the other hand, is a real all-rounder for the warmer months: served with antipasti, cold dishes, grilled vegetables or fine summer salads, it brings color, freshness and lightness to the table.

A winery with a vision
The Le Fornaci project exemplifies the Tommasi family's philosophy: appreciation of origin, respect for nature and the continuous search for quality. There are already plans to build a new wine cellar with tasting rooms to give visitors an even deeper insight into the world of Lugana in future - a clear commitment to the region and to wine tourism. With Le Fornaci, Tommasi shows how tradition, terroir and passion can be combined to create a modern yet timeless interpretation of an Italian classic. A wine that not only delights the palate, but also touches the soul. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
