Tommasi - A century of Italian wine history
The roots of a family winery
For over a century, the name Tommasi has been synonymous with excellent viticulture in Veneto. It all began in 1902, when Giacomo Battista Tommasi acquired a small vineyard in Valpolicella Classica. At the time, no one could have imagined that this humble beginning would become the foundation stone for one of Italy's most renowned wineries. Over four generations, the family has continued to develop the winery with tireless dedication - always in harmony with tradition and innovation. The love of the terroir has always remained the central guiding principle in order to capture the unique characteristics of the region in the glass.
The expansion: Tommasi Family Estates
With growing success and a clear vision for the future, the fourth generation of the family decided to expand the winery beyond the borders of Valpolicella Classica. This is how the Tommasi Family Estates project was born, dedicated to producing excellent wines in some of Italy's most renowned wine-growing regions. Today, the vineyards cover 550 hectares and, in addition to Valpolicella, also include other important areas such as Verona, Lugana, Maremma in Tuscany and Basilicata. Despite this expansion, the family remains true to its values: each plot is cultivated with the utmost respect for nature and the wines always reflect their area of origin.
Pedemonte - The heart of the company
The center of production is in Pedemonte, a small village in the heart of Valpolicella Classico. This is where the Tommasi family's journey once began and where the heart of the company still beats today. The vineyards cover 205 hectares, of which 105 hectares are located in the prestigious hills of La Groletta, Conca d'Oro and Ca' Florian - sites known for their exceptional climatic conditions and mineral soils. A further 100 hectares are spread over various DOC areas around Verona. Some of the company's finest wines are produced in these vineyards, always characterized by indigenous grape varieties and traditional vinification methods.
The art of ageing - the wine cellar at the heart of the business
A key feature of Tommasi is the careful ageing of the wines in large Slavonian oak barrels. This method is deeply rooted in the local winemaking history and gives the wines an incomparable elegance and expressiveness. The wine cellar in Pedemonte is a real gem and reflects the philosophy of the house: time, patience and precision are essential to create wines with character and longevity. The Amarone della Valpolicella in particular, the flagship of the winery, benefits from this traditional ageing process and impresses with its complexity and depth.
A family with an eye to the future
Despite all its successes, Tommasi remains a family-run company that is constantly evolving without forgetting its roots. The combination of tradition and innovation, deep roots in the homeland and respect for nature make the winery one of the leading representatives of Italian viticulture. With a clear vision and an unwavering commitment to quality, Tommasi will continue to set standards in the future - in Valpolicella and far beyond. - Gerardo [TS03/25]
"An important and famous winery that has existed for more than a century. Tommasi produces a wide range of labels, whether from the DOC of Vini Veronesi with 90 hectares, or from the Valpolicella DOC Classica, where the family owns 105 hectares. This is where the famous vineyards such as La Groletta, Conca d'Oro and Ca'Florian are cultivated. With the arrival of the fourth generation in 1997, the Tommasi family also began investing outside the Veneto region: In Oltrepò Pavese in Lombardy, in Montalcino and Maremma in Tuscany and in Manduria in Apulia." - Daniele Cernilli
