Grappa Elisi from the Berta distillery in Mombaruzzo, Piedmont, is a pomace brandy aged in wooden barrels, characterized by a warm, amber color—a direct result of careful barrique aging, which gives this grappa its aromatic depth and smooth structure. This blend is made from the pomace of the classic Piedmontese grape varieties Barbera d'Asti, Nebbiolo da Barolo, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are first distilled individually and only combined after several years of individual barrel aging; the blend is then aged for around a year in French oak barrels, which harmoniously rounds off its aroma and taste.
On the nose, Elisi reveals a complex, rich bouquet in which notes of ripe apricots and exotic fruits combine with hints of almonds, cocoa, and floral nuances, before soft fruitiness and a pleasant warmth stand out on the palate, accompanied by a delicate spiciness and a long-lasting, elegant finish. The special history of this grappa lies not only in its blend of different vintages and grape varieties, but also in the tradition of the Berta distillery itself, a family business that has been carefully distilling and aging grape residues from local wines in Piedmont since the mid-20th century — a combination of regional winemaking tradition and the desire to capture the expressiveness of its country of origin in every product. - Gerardo [TS10/26]
