Tenuta le Velette, Umbria
The idea behind the 'Gaudio' is to create an Umbrian Merlot of international cut - what Corrado Bottai has also succeeded: The intense bouquet is reminiscent of dark forest and blackberries which mix with vanilla and smoky notes. The palate is powerful and multifaceted, with a lingering finish. - Gerardo
"Somewhat set apart from its bottled peers, as is so often the case, was the Gaudio, a single-varietal Merlot with a vivid bouquet of dark berries, lavender blossoms, chocolate and toasted notes; correspondingly, the expansive, fleshy flavor with its massive wood stamp and hints of coffee, though still somewhat under the spell of tannin." - Gambero Rosso

Gabbas, Sardegna
This Cannonau Classico clearly bears the signature of Giuseppe Gabbas: the extremely selected grapes come from vines over 40 years old. A small proportion of the ancient Sardinian grape variety Muristellu gives the wine an aromatic profile and emphasizes the typical Cannonau characteristics. The spectrum of aromas ranges from blackberries to wild hedgerow roses and subtle toasty aromas. The wine is full-bodied without being opulent and of optimal concentration. - Gerardo [TS06/15]
"Dark ruby red. The aromas are austere of citrus, ink and Mediterranean scrub. The palate is coherent, with almost earthy notes, of humus, strong but elegant tannins and a clear progression." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)

Rivera, Puglia
"Rich, deep dark ruby. Opens with rich, intense nose, smells of leather, pickled nuts, also pickled cherries and plums, seductive. On the palate the wine is dense and deep, opens with tightly woven, present tannins, polished and elegant at the core, spreads out nicely, reverberating with cherry and cranberry, long." - Falstaff
'This nicely oaky style brims with sappy blackberry and cassis fruit, revealing hints of mocha, dried mint and black licorice. This is enlivened by bright, focused acidity and a subtle streak of minerality. Medium-bodied, with a fresh, spiced finish." - Wine Spectator
'This more structured, concentrated version of Nero di Troia opens with aromas of allspice, mature black fruit, violet and a whiff of leather. The bold palate delivers ripe black cherry, black pepper, grilled herb, vanilla and a chocolate note alongside big, velvety tannins." - Wine Enthusiast
'The 2009 Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Puer Apuliae is one of the top wines from Puglia today in terms of pedigree and sophistication. The bouquet is seamless and dense with a beautiful sense of varietal pureness. It is a pure expression of Nero di Troia (aged in oak for 14 months) with a plentiful bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, licorice, cola, pressed flowers and grilled herbs. The floral component is its most compelling characteristic. Smooth tannins and bright acidity give the wine a sense of integrity and persistency. Many reds from Puglia can taste jammy and heavy. This wine however delivers elegance and focus." - Robert Parker

Fasoli Gino, Veneto
The deep dark and concentrated Rosso Veronese 'Valpo' has much of its 'big brother', the world-famous Amarone: the color is a rich garnet red, in the aroma of dried fruit, coffee and some licorice. The palate is fleshy and juicy, marked by sweet tannins. The complex aroma continues into the long finish. - Gerardo [TS05/15]
"Decent, restrained bouquet with hints of cherry, chocolate and dark berries. Also cranberry and dried plum. Soft attack on the palate, nice acidity that lends length. Lots of melting and fine tannin. Long finish." - Falstaff

Musella, Veneto
The basic amarone is also given full attention at Musella: after drying, the grapes lose 35% of their own weight, concentrating fructose, aromas and tannins. The fine aromas, reminiscent of spicy herbs and black berries, create a well-rounded overall impression. Persistent and complex on the palate. - Gerardo [TS08/15]
"Dark bright ruby red with a tendency to garnet. Opens on blood orange, ripe rosehip and fresh wild strawberry, in the reverberation light spicy note, some undergrowth. On the palate with great fruit sweetness, juicy and clear, shows very drinkable and with well integrated alcohol, lively, in the reverberation of rose petal." - Falstaff

Giacomo Brezza & Figli, Piedmont
Rich ruby color with garnet reflections, complex and enigmatic on the nose, compact tannic structure on the palate and considerable length. - Gerardo [TS06/15]
"...the high-class Barolo Sarmassa cleared our three cups practically from the wrist. It piled its wet earth aroma pyramid on a platform of iodine and iron notes; it set the capstone with classic Nebbiolo tart fruit and balsamic nuances." - Gambero Rosso
'The Barolo Sarmassa is simply awesome. This dark, sensual beauty flows with the essence of balsamic-infused dark fruit, menthol, spices and minerals, all of which come to life in a rich, textured expression of Barolo. The aromatics seem to never end, as the wine exhibits remarkable inner perfume wedded to generous fruit, all supported by firm sturdy tannins that guarantee a long life in the cellar." - Robert Parker

Renato Corino, Piedmont
Barolo of strong tension, yet classically proportioned - the substantial tannins remain balanced by alcohol as well as the firm but at the same time fine fabric. The aromatics are reminiscent of tobacco, raspberry and coffee flavors. - Gerardo [TS07/15]
"In its 2005 version, Barolo Vigneto Rocche again usurps the qualitative high command. Its clear scents of tobacco and sunlit herbs give way to a powerful, seductive, expansive taste with a spicy, multi-faceted finish." - Gambero Rosso
"Gorgeous, open aromatics lead to layers of silky-textured, opulent fruit in the Barolo Vigneto Rocche. A multitude of roses, flowers, black cherries and spices flow as this vibrant, pure Barolo blossoms on the palate with superb depth and definition." - Wine Advocate
