The winery takes its name from the Colle Rugate range of hills, on whose gentle slopes grapes have been grown for centuries. In the middle of the vineyards also stands the old, small vineyard farm of the family, which has only a historical function. 30 hectares of vineyards, planted with white vines, are located in the area of Monteforte d'Alpone, in the hilly zone of origin of Soave Classico. In 2000, after a long and arduous search, 20 hectares of red vines were finally purchased at Montecchia di Crosara. They are located in the traditional area of Valpolicella. It is important to know that in the classic area of Soave and Valpolicella, which are the hilly areas, the vineyards are basically inherited and very rarely sold.
Oenologist Michele Tessari has focused his particular attention on the grape variety Garganega, typical of the region and terroir, for his white wines. Experience with the autochthonous red grape varieties Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone, was added with the new acquisition. Thanks to a consequent thinning out of the vines, a special short pruning on the vines and a pronounced interest in innovations in the cultivation methods, Ca' Rugate produces noble white and red wines. They stand out for their balance, integrity, consistency and for their distinct perfumes and aromas. The vineyards have an ideal orientation towards the sun. A particular microclimate prevails. The composition of the soils, they are all of volcanic origin, decisively favor the growth of great wines.
The house Soave is made from 100% Garganega grapes, this guarantees a complex and smooth wine. They are also one of the great, classic and typical white wines of northern Italy. It owes its reputation to the precious and autochthonous Garganega grape. The Classico designation means that this wine thrives in the oldest growing zone, mostly in the hilly areas and on black volcanic soil. The vine produces fragrant, fresh, fruity and at the same time mild wines, with golden yellow color. The typical fruit acidity and moderate alcohol content make this wine very appealing to the Central European wine lover. - Gerardo [TS06/22]
"A spectacular record! There is certainly a super terroir behind it, and certainly the winemaker also understands a lot about his daily business, one thinks in view of such success across the board. However, the current bottle elite of Ca' Rugate comes from two fundamentally different cultivation zones, namely Soave and Valpolicella, and on top of that we have to do with dry wines as well as sweet wines. Now, at the latest, it becomes clear that the second idea is correct and that only Michele Tessari, the good spirit of this family winery, with his grandiose knowledge of the area and its wines, can bring all this about'. - Gambero Rosso
