A winery of conviction - the birth of Titolo
The story of the Elena Fucci winery began in 2000 with a decision that not only saved a family legacy, but also laid the foundations for one of the most important Aglianico del Vulture wines. The six hectares of vineyards around the Fucci family home in Barile, at the foot of the extinct Monte Vulture volcano, were about to be sold. For decades, grandfather Generoso had tended and sold the grapes by hand - initially locally, later also to wineries in northern Italy. But when Elena, still young and full of plans for a life far from home, supported her family's decision, she realized that there was more at stake here than just a piece of land.

It was the awareness of the sacrifices and passion of her ancestors that moved her to realign her future. She mentally returned, not only to her home, but to the roots of her identity. While studying oenology and viticulture at the University of Pisa, she embarked on an ambitious project: a winery dedicated to a single wine - Titolo, a single-varietal Aglianico del Vulture that would express the essence of its origins as a premium cru.

The winery - innovation with respect for its origins
The winery was built in a special place: directly under the family home, in the so-called Torre Titolo, where the grandfather once stored tractors and tools. The first step was the construction of a barrique cellar, which was dug directly into the hard volcanic rock slope - a symbolic act of rootedness in the terroir.

More recently, the winery has been carefully expanded. The new, modern extension can be reached via a tunnel carved into the rock and was built to the highest ecological standards: recycled materials, natural ventilation, thermal insulation - a consistently sustainable approach that combines environmental protection and energy efficiency. The winery is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure optimal conditions for the vinification and maturation of Titolo.

However, despite all the technology, the heart of the business remains meticulous manual work - from pruning and hand-picking to the loving care of the vines. Elena and father Salvatore Fucci dedicate themselves to each phase with the greatest care. The wine is made from old vines that cling to the barren, mineral-rich soils of the Vulture at an altitude of 600 meters - characterized by extreme day-night temperature differences and a unique microclimate.

Aglianico del Vulture - The soul of Basilicata in a glass
The Aglianico grape variety is one of the noblest and oldest in southern Italy. Its origins can probably be traced back to ancient Greece. The “vitis helenica” prefers volcanic, deep soils and a long vegetation window - perfect conditions for a complex, storable red wine. The vine requires patience and experience, as the wines need several years of maturation to develop their full potential.

The Titolo is a prime example of this philosophy. It is a wine of great depth, elegance and power. Ruby red in the glass, it has a complex aroma with notes of dark berries, spices, earthy hints and the typical volcanic minerality. It is structured on the palate, with lively acidity and noble tannins - a wine of character that continues to develop over time and ages with dignity.

One wine - one vision
With Titolo, the Fucci family is following an uncompromising path: only one wine, on just a few hectares, but with full dedication and concentration. This philosophy has paid off: Titolo is now regarded as a benchmark for Aglianico del Vulture - a wine that not only represents the region, but has also brought it to international attention. Experts such as the Italian wine guide Duemilavini even speak of a “rivoluzione copernicana”, a Copernican revolution, triggered by the courageous decision of a young woman not to abandon her homeland, but to help it gain a new reputation.

A look into the future
Even if the Titolo already enjoys cult status today, Elena Fucci's journey is far from over. With growing recognition at home and abroad and a constant striving for perfection, the name Fucci will remain closely associated with authenticity, quality and a love of Aglianico in the future. In a region that is often overshadowed by major Italian wine-growing regions, it proves that great wines are created where passion, origin and vision come together. - Gerardo [TS04/25]
