Elena Fucci | Basilikata
The wine guide 'Duemilavini', published by the Italian Sommelier Association AIS (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers), speaks of a 'rivoluzione copernicana', a Copernican revolution. The wine in question is Titolo from the Basilicata region of Elena Fucci.
The winery was founded in 2000, when the family was considering whether to sell the beautiful vineyards that surround the house where Elena Fucci grew up. The current winery was created in the old space under the family home, called Torre Titolo, where Grandfather Generoso used to store farm vehicles and equipment. A first extension was dug directly into the volcanic rock to accommodate the barrique cellar. The winery is equipped with all the necessary equipment, from harvesting to bottling and labeling, and uses every available space (even Papa Salvatore's garage, where he can no longer park his car) to provide the best possible care for the Titolo. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
"If the modern wine looks like the Titolo, we can only say loudly 'yes'. In this also resonates our respect for the entire Fucci family. Their wine adventure is still very young, like the face of the capable Elena, Doctor of Enology and right hand of father Salvatore. He is the one who dances with the wine in a Vulture where not only hard work and competition prevail, but also sympathy, lightness and friendship. ... Elena Fucci has condemned her Aglianico del Vulture to a single existence from the very beginning. His cradle was and still is in a parcel of land at an altitude of over 600 meters in Contrada Solagna di Barile, in the meantime Elena has almost doubled her field of activity." - Gambero Rosso
"Elena Fucci, a young enologist and producer, is the prodigy of Vulture. She makes only one wine in her new winery, but she makes it with passion and bravura, so much so that today she is known halfway around the world, despite limited production." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)

Tasty and powerful in expression, with a developed and deep bouquet, with notes of dried fruit and blackberries, as well as notes of ash and some flint. The expressive mineral identity is among the main defining characteristics of this Riserva. The natural astringent tendency of the tannin of Aglianico shows excellent integration and great structure. Elena Fucci | Basilikata | Buy at Gerardo
The dynamic and dedicated winemaker Elena Fucci runs the eponymous winery together with father Salvatore. The highly specialized family winery has been demonstrating extraordinary skill in the production of its wine - arguably the best Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata - for several years. The motto of the venture is 'courage to take a step back" - because it is a financial risk in this day and age to build up an entire winery on just one label.
Aglianico is a very old grape variety, which is mainly grown in Basilicata and Campania. It was probably introduced by the Greeks a long time ago as 'vitis helenica' and then spread due to the ideal growing conditions of the region. It prefers deep and volcanic soils, which are common in Basilicata and Puglia. Its vegetative cycle is extremely long and thus has the potential to produce an expressive, great red wine. The vine produces deep ruby red, full-bodied and rich wines, coupled with intense, noble tannins and lively acidity. Because of their complexity, wines made from the Aglianico grape require several years of careful aging before they are released to the market. They are wines that can have a shelf life of over 10 years in the bottle.
Aglianico is grown in the 15 municipalities in the hilly and volcanic north of Basilicata, specifically around the towns of Rionero in Vulture and Barile. The Fucci family vineyards reach an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. For four generations now, the Fucci family has lived and worked near Barile, in northern Basilicata. The Aglianico del Vulture is the only wine of this estate of only a few hectares and has been made with many risks - commercial too - but without compromise. This wine is the result of years of hard and dedicated work by Salvatore Fucci and his daughter Elena. Fucci's wine has for some time been considered the rising star and the new discovery of Basilicata and the confirmation of local producers who specialize in the native grape variety. It is a wine for a small layer of connoisseurs and lovers of sophisticated and classic red wines. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
