Elena Fucci | Basilikata

The wine guide 'Duemilavini', published by the Italian Sommelier Association AIS (Associazione Italiana Sommeliers), speaks of a 'rivoluzione copernicana', a Copernican revolution. The wine in question is Titolo from the Basilicata region of Elena Fucci.

The winery was founded in 2000, when the family was considering whether to sell the beautiful vineyards that surround the house where Elena Fucci grew up. The current winery was created in the old space under the family home, called Torre Titolo, where Grandfather Generoso used to store farm vehicles and equipment. A first extension was dug directly into the volcanic rock to accommodate the barrique cellar. The winery is equipped with all the necessary equipment, from harvesting to bottling and labeling, and uses every available space (even Papa Salvatore's garage, where he can no longer park his car) to provide the best possible care for the Titolo. - Gerardo [TS01/23]

"If the modern wine looks like the Titolo, we can only say loudly 'yes'. In this also resonates our respect for the entire Fucci family. Their wine adventure is still very young, like the face of the capable Elena, Doctor of Enology and right hand of father Salvatore. He is the one who dances with the wine in a Vulture where not only hard work and competition prevail, but also sympathy, lightness and friendship. ... Elena Fucci has condemned her Aglianico del Vulture to a single existence from the very beginning. His cradle was and still is in a parcel of land at an altitude of over 600 meters in Contrada Solagna di Barile, in the meantime Elena has almost doubled her field of activity." - Gambero Rosso

"Elena Fucci, a young enologist and producer, is the prodigy of Vulture. She makes only one wine in her new winery, but she makes it with passion and bravura, so much so that today she is known halfway around the world, despite limited production." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)

´SCEG´ · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020, Elena Fucci, Basilikata

SCEG · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020 (Bio)

Elena Fucci, Basilicata

SCEG is the new project of Elena Fucci and of course another Aglianico del Vulture: the grapes come from a vineyard which Elena was able to acquire by chance, since the previous owner had abandoned it for age reasons. SCEG is a young Aglianico from old vineyards and is vinified only in stainless steel. - Gerardo [TS01/21]

"Bright, noble ruby red. In the nose of honey, wax and red currants, in the reverberation of fruit tea and clear pepper spice. Opens on the palate juicy and clear, with red raspberry fruit, taut, with powerful tannins, currently still young, already drinking very fine, will develop well." - Falstaff

"The dark and brooding 2020 Aglianico del Vulture SCEG smolders up from the glass with a rich and earthy mix of plum sauce, brown spice and crushed autumn leaves. This is silky-smooth, yet balanced by brisk acidity, as a contrasting wave of citrus-tinged black fruit washes across the senses. Smoky nuances and hints of ash resonate throughout. Yet, the 2020 finishes remarkably fresh, leaving just a subtle tug of mineral-laced tannin to remind the taster that this is a young Aglianico in its purest form. The SCEG is refined in stainless steel and sourced from several small old-vine parcels throughout Barile." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

´Titolo´ · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020, Elena Fucci, Basilikata

Titolo · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020 (Bio)

Elena Fucci, Basilicata

Titolo is the result of the Fucci family's still young viticultural project. Together with her father Salvatore, Elena Fucci has created something impressive: This single-varietal Aglianico exudes a beguiling, ethereal aroma with distinct spicy notes. Pronounced, voluminous flavors of sour cherries, currants, rosemary and cinnamon followed by slight hints of vanilla. Soft and dry of great structure and excellent length. - Gerardo [TS01/21]

"If the modern wine looks like the Titolo, then we can only say yes to it out loud." - Gambero Rosso

"Kudos to Salvatore Fucci and his daughter Elena, that have produced the umpteenth excellent aglianico from grapes harvested from perhaps the best vineyard of the whole zone. A very fine wine with plenty of plum, rose and black cherry aromas and flavours. usual telltale-fine tannins on the long clean finish." - Ian D'Agata (Guida ai Miglori Vini d'Italia)

"Grape variety Aglianico. Aging for one year in barriques. Dense ruby red color. Intense aromas of cherry and small black fruits. Then balsamic and spicy tones. The palate is warm with a good youthful and fine tannin structure. Salty and with a long and persistent finish." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)

"Bright, dark ruby garnet. Fragrant nose of dried rose, ripe strawberries, a touch of vanilla, honey in the aftertaste, inviting bouquet. Opens softly on the palate with polished tannin, clear red fruit, stretches finely and elegantly over the tongue, compact tannin presses gently on the palate in the finish." - Falstaff

"It's almost impossible to pull away from the darkly alluring and utterly radiant aromatics of the 2020 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo. With each swirl, tobacco, ash and forest floor give way to crushed violets, black currants and mint candies. It washes across the palate like pure silk, at first pliant and soothing, yet quickly gains a more tacticle crunch, as mineral-tinged fruits saturate, and savory herbal tones resonate throughout. The 2020 finishes strucutred and incredibly long with notes of salted licorice, balsamic spice and cocoa that never seem to quit; and yet, though it all, residual acids keep the mouth-watering. This is deceptively attractive at this young stage, yet structured for teh long hausl - what a beauty." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

´Titolo by Amphora´ · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020, Elena Fucci, Basilikata

Titolo by Amphora · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2020

Elena Fucci, Basilicata

Intense ruby color with garnet highlights, broad and complex bouquet with distinct spicy notes of pepper and fruit jam, currants and tobacco. Great aromatic finish with rich structure and marked youthful personality thanks to the even more pronounced spiciness and minerality. - Gerardo [TS01/21]

"Dark, bright rich garnet. On the nose of ripe wild berries, dried rose petal, a touch of marzipan, cinnamon, then ripe cherry again. On the palate then with crisp-grip tannin and nice density, mineral undertone, stretches far across the tongue, still very young, in the back course currently still drying a bit, should definitely still rest in the bottle." - Falstaff

"The 2020 is an incredibly pretty vintage for the Aglianico del Vulture Titolo by Amphora, as a cool-toned, almost-minty freshness gives way to zesty nuances of blackberry, sage and white pepper. This seems to hover across the palate, silky and opulent, yet almost weightless in feel, as a cascade of mineral-tinged black fruit is perfectly lifted by stimulating acidity and hints of sour citrus. It leaves behind a caking of fine tannins that seem to slowly crackle and fade away, as notes of red plum and licorice resonate for over a minute. Hands down, the 2020 is most engaging and complete vintage of Titolo by Amphora that I have ever tasted. Brava!" - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

´Titolo Superiore´ · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2019, Elena Fucci, Basilikata
Titolo Superiore · Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2019

Elena Fucci, Basilicata

A vintage full of character and charm: concentrated, rich and balanced, with an intense ruby color. Elegant and soft tannic structure, concentrated and aromatic of herbs and spices. Rich fruit reminiscent of cherry and sour cherry, with aromatic persistence and a finish reminiscent of tobacco, supported by an acidic note that gives an impressive freshness. Limited edition of only 400 bottles. - Gerardo [TS01/20]

"The 2018 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo Superiore pulls me deep into the glass to take in its beguiling bouquet, as balsamic spice, incense and crushed ashen rocks evolve into a mix of blackberries, sage and hints of animal musk. Cool-toned and finessed, this impresses with its savory, nearly salty character and perfumed black fruit profile, as brisk acids maintain a lovely freshness. A twang of sour citrus adds a bump of nervous energy toward the close, as the 2018 finishes with a web of silty tannins and hints of black currant that linger on. The Superiore is a selection that's refined for 12 months in tonneaux, followed by 12 months in used barrels and, finally 12 months in the bottle. It's aromatically stunning, with added textural depth and an enhanced structure that outhweighs the 2018 Titolo. Following this bottle for three days, I'm highly interested to see how it will mature of the coming years." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

Tasty and powerful in expression, with a developed and deep bouquet, with notes of dried fruit and blackberries, as well as notes of ash and some flint. The expressive mineral identity is among the main defining characteristics of this Riserva. The natural astringent tendency of the tannin of Aglianico shows excellent integration and great structure. Elena Fucci | Basilikata | Buy at Gerardo

The dynamic and dedicated winemaker Elena Fucci runs the eponymous winery together with father Salvatore. The highly specialized family winery has been demonstrating extraordinary skill in the production of its wine - arguably the best Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata - for several years. The motto of the venture is 'courage to take a step back" - because it is a financial risk in this day and age to build up an entire winery on just one label.

Aglianico is a very old grape variety, which is mainly grown in Basilicata and Campania. It was probably introduced by the Greeks a long time ago as 'vitis helenica' and then spread due to the ideal growing conditions of the region. It prefers deep and volcanic soils, which are common in Basilicata and Puglia. Its vegetative cycle is extremely long and thus has the potential to produce an expressive, great red wine. The vine produces deep ruby red, full-bodied and rich wines, coupled with intense, noble tannins and lively acidity. Because of their complexity, wines made from the Aglianico grape require several years of careful aging before they are released to the market. They are wines that can have a shelf life of over 10 years in the bottle.

Aglianico is grown in the 15 municipalities in the hilly and volcanic north of Basilicata, specifically around the towns of Rionero in Vulture and Barile. The Fucci family vineyards reach an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. For four generations now, the Fucci family has lived and worked near Barile, in northern Basilicata. The Aglianico del Vulture is the only wine of this estate of only a few hectares and has been made with many risks - commercial too - but without compromise. This wine is the result of years of hard and dedicated work by Salvatore Fucci and his daughter Elena. Fucci's wine has for some time been considered the rising star and the new discovery of Basilicata and the confirmation of local producers who specialize in the native grape variety. It is a wine for a small layer of connoisseurs and lovers of sophisticated and classic red wines. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
