With “Titolo by Amphora”, Elena Fucci opens a new chapter in the interpretation of Aglianico del Vulture. This special wine is vinified and matured exclusively in amphorae - a deliberate step towards even greater originality and expressiveness of the grape variety. The grapes come from the renowned Titolo vineyard, but the absence of wood allows a particularly clear, unadulterated aroma to develop. The amphora-fermented version expresses the depth of the volcanic terroir, the natural spiciness and the youthful freshness of the Aglianico grape in a particularly precise way.
In the glass, the wine is an intense ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, it reveals a complex interplay of aromas: ripe forest fruits, redcurrants, dried rose petals, tobacco and a hint of marzipan and cinnamon, complemented by striking notes of white pepper and fruit jam. On the palate, the Titolo by Amphora is silky, almost floating, and at the same time concentrated, carried by lively acidity and fine-grained tannins. Mineral notes, a hint of citrus and a salty finish provide depth and length. This purist interpretation of Aglianico is currently still youthfully taut, but has enormous potential for development - a wine with a strong character that combines the past and future of the region in a fascinating way. - Gerardo [TS10/21]
"Dark, bright rich garnet. On the nose of ripe wild berries, dried rose petal, a touch of marzipan, cinnamon, then ripe cherry again. On the palate then with crisp-grip tannin and nice density, mineral undertone, stretches far across the tongue, still very young, in the back course currently still drying a bit, should definitely still rest in the bottle." - Falstaff
"The 2020 is an incredibly pretty vintage for the Aglianico del Vulture Titolo by Amphora, as a cool-toned, almost-minty freshness gives way to zesty nuances of blackberry, sage and white pepper. This seems to hover across the palate, silky and opulent, yet almost weightless in feel, as a cascade of mineral-tinged black fruit is perfectly lifted by stimulating acidity and hints of sour citrus. It leaves behind a caking of fine tannins that seem to slowly crackle and fade away, as notes of red plum and licorice resonate for over a minute.
