Edelvernatsch DOC 2023

  The “Edelvernatsch” from the Kaltern Winery is an authentic representative of South Tyrolean wine tradition. Its name refers to the finest variety of Vernatsch grapes, which have been cultivated in Kaltern and the surrounding area for centuries. The grapes thrive in the warm, loamy-calcareous soils around Lake Kaltern, where the climatic conditions offer ideal conditions for the development of their characteristic fruitiness. After harvesting, the grapes undergo a week of maceration at a controlled temperature, followed by biological acid reduction and four months of storage on the fine lees in stainless steel and concrete vats. This gentle processing preserves the freshness and purity of the aromas.

In the glass, Edelvernatsch displays a bright ruby red color. The bouquet unfolds aromas of fresh raspberries, juicy cherries, and a delicate hint of bitter almond, which lend the wine a subtle spiciness. On the palate, the wine is light and smooth, with a pleasant structure and a harmonious balance between fruit and freshness. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to traditional South Tyrolean dishes such as bacon, sausage, antipasti, light starters, salads, and mild soft cheeses.
