Platt & Riegl · Weißburgunder DOC 2024

  The Pinot Bianco “Platt & Riegl” from the Girlan Winery was first produced in 1989 and impressively brings the uniqueness of its origin to the glass: the grapes come from selected single vineyards above Girlan and Eppan Berg at an altitude of around 450-550 meters—vineyard names that are reflected in the name “Platt & Riegl.” After hand-picking, the grapes are gently pressed whole and the must is divided: about half ferments in large wooden barrels with subsequent malolactic fermentation, the other half in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The subsequent aging on the fine lees for several months gives the wine remarkable depth and structure.

The wine displays a light straw yellow color with greenish reflections in the glass. The nose reveals seductive notes of green apple, ripe pear, and exotic fruits, accompanied by delicate wood spice and a subtle mineral signature. On the palate, creamy texture meets lively freshness and a well-integrated acidity structure, culminating in a long, elegant finish. The “Platt & Riegl” is an excellent accompaniment to fine starters, white meat, or delicate fish, and is also a characterful white wine for discerning moments of enjoyment. - Gerardo [TS10/25]
