Lagrein Classica DOC 2023

  The red wine from the indigenous Lagrein grape variety produced by the Girlan Winery in South Tyrol has a deep ruby red color with slight violet reflections—a typical characteristic of this variety. It comes from vineyards in the South Tyrolean lowlands, on sandy, warm, and deep soils, which allow for an intense aroma due to significant temperature differences between day and night. The grapes are harvested by hand in small containers, then the mash is carefully destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks before undergoing malolactic fermentation and maturing for several months, partly in large wooden barrels or concrete containers. The bouquet reveals typical notes of violets and dark berries, accompanied by a velvety structure and well-integrated acidity.

On the palate, this Lagrein impresses with its full, elegant texture and fine, soft tannins, as well as a balanced acidity that gives it excellent aging potential. It pairs perfectly with grilled meat, roasts, game dishes, or spicy cheese—ideal for rich foods that allow its deep fruit and subtle minerality to fully unfold. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
