Today, Pinot Blanc is considered the most important white wine in South Tyrol: fresh apple and pear fruit with a fine play of scents and a racy acidity that is never off-putting. Not a loud, fashionable white wine, but a distinctive regional wine. Gerardo's Notes: From its homeland of Burgundy, the first Pinot Blanc vines arrived in South Tyrol 150 years ago, where the delicate new variety quickly spread throughout the winegrowing region - since the first decades of the 20th century, Pinot Blanc has been South Tyrol's most important white wine. On the somewhat cooler slopes of Kurtatsch, which are favorable for it, the Pinot Blanc best develops its talents. The Pinot Blanc grapes for the Kurtatsch 'Selection' come from steep vineyards below the Mendel Mountains at an altitude of 400 - 650 m above sea level. The vineyards face east or southeast. Nightly fall winds during the ripening phase of the grapes provide a striking day/night temperature difference. The calcareous soil is interspersed with clay.
