  The Brenntal Merlot Riserva from the Kurtatsch Winery is a monument to specialty: originating from the single vineyard Brenntal—one of South Tyrol's warmest steep slopes with red-sandy loam soil and intense sunlight—this single-varietal Merlot interpretation matures in barrique-fermented aging. The grapes enjoy the warmth during the day and refreshing fall winds at night, resulting in a wine with southern richness and an alpine backbone. In the cellar, temperature control in rotary tanks and maturation in barriques and large oak barrels are used - steps that give this Riserva depth and texture.

In the glass, Brenntal Merlot is a dense ruby red with a garnet sheen - a visual harbinger of its concentration. The nose reveals aromas of cranberry and blackberry, accompanied by notes of green tea and white pepper - a fascinating mix of southern fruit and alpine freshness. On the palate, it impresses with velvety yet clearly defined tannins and a salty minerality on the finish that makes the stony terroir palpable.
