Kalterersee Auslese DOC 2022

  The “Kalterersee Auslese” from the St. Michael-Eppan Winery is an excellent interpretation of the classic Vernatsch grape variety in its homeland around the idyllic Lake Kaltern. The grapes come from the sun-drenched vineyards along the South Tyrolean Wine Road with limestone and moraine-rich soils, which give the variety its fine fruit and mineral clarity. Careful work is carried out in the cellar - after hand harvesting, gentle fermentation takes place, partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden barrels, which gives the wine an elegant depth and subtle maturity.

In the glass, this wine displays a bright ruby red color and a seductive bouquet with notes of violets, cherries, and a hint of bitter almond—classic signs of Vernatsch at its best. On the palate, it is silky and juicy, with a harmonious structure and a delicate fruitiness supported by subtle spice notes. This combination makes it an uncomplicated pleasure that pairs perfectly with traditional South Tyrolean specialties such as bacon, sausage, or a hearty snack. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
