Guido Berlucchi | Lombardy
Guido Berlucchi is the founding and reference winery of Franciacorta, named 'Winery of the Year 2022' by Gambero Rosso for having 'written the history of the classic Italian method'. Here, in 1961, Franco Ziliani and Guido Berlucchi created the first sparkling wine using the classic method of the area: the first Franciacorta.
Today the Cantina is managed by the three children of the patron Ziliani: Cristina, Arturo and Paolo, who have led the company into the new millennium, continuing their father's mission of innovation and enhancement of the territory. They take care of a brand that is now synonymous with Franciacorta and quality worldwide, but is also known for modern research in the field of sustainability. It is precisely this logic of low impact that has led Guido Berlucchi to publish, starting in 2020, its Sustainability Report, which analyzes the path taken in the last 20 years and 'scans' the improvements achieved in the territory from an environmental, economic and social point of view - including Academia Berlucchi, a place for discussion and exchange with personalities from the cultural and social world, for viticulture and beyond.
The company, which produces iconic Franciacorta wines, has distinguished itself in particular for its Riserva Palazzo Lana, aged in bottle for at least 120 months and praised by Italian and international critics, for its '61 Nature series - refined spumante with dosage zero and aging for at least 60 months - and for the Franciacorta '61 line - fresh and versatile, with at least 24 months of aging. - Gerardo [TS09/23]
"We are in 1955: Guido Berlucchi and the young oenologist Franco Ziliani want to produce Franciacorta Metodo Classico in the province of Brescia. With the first harvest in 1961 they realize their then revolutionary idea and still today the historic cellar dating back to the 17th century houses one of those first 3,000 bottles. Berlucchi, however, is not only synonymous with Franciacorta, but equally with sustainability, pioneering spirit and innovation. Cornerstones that still support the daily work of the new generation Cristina, Arturo and Paolo." - Falstaff
