Cusumano | Sicily
The Cusumano winery is a renowned company on the Italian island of Sicily, specializing in the production of high quality wines. It was founded in 1980 by the brothers Alberto and Diego Cusumano, who are committed to the search for excellent Sicilian wines. Cusumano is based in Menfi, a town in the heart of Sicily, and cultivates its vines on several vineyards in the area. The company relies on modern technologies and works closely with local grape growers to create the best possible conditions for wine production.
Cusumano produces both red and white wines and has made a name for itself with its Sicilian classics such as Nero d'Avola and Inzolia. The winery is particularly known for its premium wines made from autochthonous grape varieties that are unique to Sicily. Some of these wines include the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato and Nerello Mascalese varieties. The company also has a wide range of international grape varieties, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. Cusumano wines are available in many countries and enjoy an excellent reputation in the wine world. The winery places great emphasis on sustainability and environmental friendliness and is committed to preserving the environment and local culture. Cusumano has received several awards and prizes for its wines and its sustainability initiatives. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
"Within just a decade, Alberto and Diego Cusumano's winery has become one of Sicily's preeminent suppliers. On its estates in Salemi, Pachino, Butera and Piana degli Albanesi, it produces wines that combine a clear reference to their terroir with an unmistakable profile and, supported by modern marketing methods as well as a moderate pricing policy, have been able to gain an exposed position in the highly competitive international market." - Gambero Rosso
"The first notable wine of the winery of Diego and Alberto Cusumano is probably the Noah of 2000, at which time they took their first steps in the world of Sicilian wine archaeology. Today Cusumano is known halfway around the world for wines of exceptional quality, coming from different parts of Sicily and not only from the area of Partinico, between Palermo and Alcamo, where the mother winery is located. In particular, the new winery built on Mount Etna, under the name of Alta Mora, gives truly surprising results." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
"The 'cru idea' is the omnipresent leitmotif of Alberto and Diego Cusumano: for each grape variety is determined the optimal location. Their father and founder of the company, Francesco Cusumano, searched Sicily for the regions that offer the best conditions for different varieties. These include five hectares of vineyards in the small villages of Verzella and Pietramarina in Partinico, where the new Alta Mora estate has been created. Here the native grape varieties Nerello Mascalese and Carricante grow on sand, lava, ash and basalt at an altitude of 600 to 1000 meters in the Alberello system. The grapes, which are particularly rigorously selected, are pressed in an underground cellar with walls of lava rock." - Falstaff
