Cannonau | Grape variety

Cannonau di Sardegna is a red wine produced on the island of Sardinia in Italy. It is made from the eponymous Cannonau grape, also known as Grenache, and is usually dry and tannic. The Cannonau grape produces powerful and full-bodied red wines with medium alcohol, soft acidity and generous aromas of red fruits such as raspberries and strawberries, as well as floral and spicy notes.

Cannonau di Sardegna can be made as a varietal wine or blended with other varieties, as it imparts flavor and fruit without developing tannin and toffee notes as it ages. Cannonau wine tastes of ripe berries, plums, cranberries and white spices. It is a light to medium bodied red wine that ages very well. The tannins are typically strong, the alcohol content is rather high and the acidity is low. - Gerardo [TS02/23]

In 1974, the farmer Sisinnio Poddi plowed out the head of one of these statues on the Sinis Peninsula. The forty years of excavation campaigns brought to light other statues, nuraghe models and wall remains. The age of the giants of Mont'e Prama indicates that the oldest free-standing large sculpture in Europe was created in Sardinia, even before a similar development began in Greece.

Cannonau | Grape variety | Buy at Gerardo

Cannonau is a red grape variety grown mainly in Sardinia. It is also known as Grenache or Garnacha and is one of the most widely grown grape varieties in Italy, Spain, France and other parts of the world. The Cannonau grape has a robust nature and can thrive in poor soil conditions, making it a popular choice for winemakers in Sardinia.

Cannonau wines are characterized by their fruity aromas of cherries, plums and spices. They also have a medium to high alcohol content and a pleasant acidity. In Sardinia, Cannonau wines are often used in combination with other local grape varieties to produce complex and dense wines.

In recent years, the popularity of Cannonau wines has increased, as they are a good alternative to the more famous and expensive grape varieties. However, this grape variety is still more of an insider's tip for wine connoisseurs and offers an incomparable aroma and taste experience.

In conclusion, Cannonau is a robust and versatile grape variety that offers many advantages. Although it is not yet as well known as other grape varieties, it is definitely worth a try for all wine lovers who want to try new flavors. - Gerardo [TS02/23]
