Laurin · Lagrein-Merlot DOC 2022

  The red wine “Laurin” - a cuvée of the indigenous Lagrein variety and the classic international Merlot grape - comes from the traditional Girlan winery in South Tyrol's Überetsch region. The blend of around 40% Lagrein and 60% Merlot creates a harmonious combination of regional roots and modern style. The grapes come from the south-facing slopes of Überetsch at around 450-500 meters above sea level, as well as from the warm, sandy depths of the lowlands. After gentle hand harvesting and destemming, the wine undergoes maceration for around 12-15 days, followed by biological acid reduction; it then matures for 15-18 months in small wooden barrels and large wooden barrels or barriques before further storage in tanks.

In the glass, Laurin displays a deep ruby red color with violet reflections and unfolds notes of dark forest berries, sour cherry, and delicate spice on the nose—a bouquet that elegantly combines the dark fruit of Lagrein with the velvety character of Merlot. On the palate, it is full-bodied and balanced, with a smooth texture, well-integrated tannins, and lively acidity, giving it both drinkability and aging potential.
