Vernatsch Fass Nr. 9 is produced only from excellent vintages in order to maintain the quality of this wine at a consistently high level. The mild character of Vernatsch and the strong concentration of velvety tannins make this Vernatsch an exceptional red wine. Barrel No. 9 goes well with all dishes. "Schiava grown in pergola vineyards of around 30 years old in Girlan and Colterenzio at an elevation of 450 m above sea level on morainic soils. Fermented in stainless steel and MLF in large oak barrels in which it was aged for five months. Just mid ruby. Ripe raspberry nose with plenty of depth and with hints of cherry liqueur and what looks like oak. Racy savoury raspberry fruit with a layer of grainy tannins adding lots of interest. Elegant and with real bite on the finish. Complex and long." - Walter Speller
Gerardo's Notes: It was the first Vernatsch to make it onto the wine lists of upscale restaurants as early as the 1960s. The persistent adherence to the selective choice of the best sites and a restrictive reduction in quantity gave Barrel No. 9 a pioneering role in South Tyrolean quality viticulture.
