Kurtatsch in the south of South Tyrol is rich in warm soils, where both Cabernet varieties, which are combined in Kurtatscher Cabernet, can mature very well. From the Cabernet Sauvignon comes the elegant fruit, reminiscent of black currants - the Cabernet Franc contributes the spicy, vital spice. - Gerardo [TS07/15]

Gerardo's Notes: In 1874, the San Michele State Viticultural Institute was founded - the first director, Edmund Mach, introduced all the red Bordeaux varieties and recommended planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in areas with similar soil conditions and mild microclimates to the famous Bordeaux terroirs: loose, permeable soils with good drainage in sheltered, south-exposed sites. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vineyards are located primarily on the loose gravelly soils at elevations between 220 and 330 meters above sea level. These hot southern exposures, with rapidly warming and poor subsoil, are ideal for growing the late-ripening and heat-loving Cabernet. In addition, the back-heat of the overlying rock walls favors the full ripeness of the grapes.
