Le Colture - tradition and innovation in the heart of Valdobbiadene
A small village in the middle of the picturesque Prosecco hills: Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene is home to the Le Colture winery, whose roots go back to the 16th century. The Ruggeri family has been dedicated to winegrowing here for over 500 years - an impressive history that has been passed down from generation to generation. But tradition alone is not enough to produce top wines. Le Colture combines traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology and a deep connection to the unique landscape of Valdobbiadene.
The dawn of a new era
While the winery had already been known for its first-class wines for centuries, a new era began in the 1980s. In 1983, Cesare Ruggeri decided to focus more on the production of high-quality sparkling wines. With a wealth of experience, a feel for the region and a deep understanding of the characteristics of the vineyards, he led Le Colture into a new dimension of Prosecco production. Today, the winery is synonymous with excellent quality and wines of strong character that reflect the essence of their origin.
Family tradition as the foundation of success
Le Colture is a true family winery, where the knowledge and passion for wine is passed down from generation to generation. Today, it is Cesare's children - Silvia, Alberto and Veronica - who are carrying on the legacy. With youthful energy and fresh ideas, they bring a new dynamic to the business without losing sight of the long history and values of their house. Each of them is actively involved in the various areas of the winery, from working in the vineyard and selecting the best grapes to cellar technology and marketing the wines. It is this close cohesion that makes Le Colture a unique and authentic family business.
Harmonious combination of tradition and modernity
From the outside, the winery looks like a traditional farm with a historic wine cellar - but behind the walls lies state-of-the-art technology. Innovation plays a decisive role at Le Colture, as the quality of the wines can only be constantly improved through the targeted use of progressive methods. At the same time, respect for nature and the originality of the vines is maintained. This balance between old and new characterizes not only the production process, but also the wines themselves, which are characterized by exceptional freshness, elegance and finesse.
The unique vineyards of Le Colture
One of the great features of Le Colture is its vineyard estate: the winery cultivates a total of 40 hectares of vines, spread over 16 different sites in the best areas of Valdobbiadene, Conegliano and Montello. This diversity makes it possible to produce wines with very different characters - each shaped by the soil and climatic conditions of the individual plots. It is these subtle nuances that make the Prosecco from Le Colture so unmistakable.
Glera - the soul of Prosecco
The heart of all Prosecco wines is the Glera grape, an autochthonous grape variety with long, golden yellow grapes and a fine fruity aroma. To be declared as Prosecco, a wine must contain at least 85% Glera - supplemented by small proportions of Verdiso, Perera, Bianchetta, Pinot or Chardonnay. The grape is characterized by its elegant, slightly aromatic nature and produces sparkling wines that reflect the typical floral and fruity notes of the Valdobbiadene terroir.
Until 2009, the Glera grape was still known as Prosecco. However, with the introduction of the protected designation of origin Prosecco Superiore Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG, the term was officially limited to the region in order to avoid confusion. Today, Prosecco not only stands for a sparkling wine, but for a centuries-old tradition that is preserved and developed with the utmost care in wineries such as Le Colture.
A winery with vision
Le Colture embodies the essence of Valdobbiadene: a perfect symbiosis of nature, history and craftsmanship. With the courage to innovate, respect for tradition and a deeply rooted family spirit, the winery succeeds in producing Prosecco at the highest level. Every sip is a tribute to the unique landscape of the Prosecco hills - and an invitation to discover the fascination of these special wines for yourself. - Gerardo [TS02/25]
