  At Librandi, in addition to internationally recognized grape varieties, they strive to cultivate indigenous growths and develop them into top wines. For the Magno Megonio, the autochthonous Calabrian grape variety Magliocco is used, which was almost threatened with extinction. One of the ring-shaped experimental vineyards at Librandi is planted exclusively with this grape variety and provides the basis for the barrique-aged Magno Megonio. The wine borrows its name from a Roman centurion and hints at the long history of the grape variety. Librandi was expressly praised for this advance by Andreas März (MERUM) as well as the wine guide Veronelli. It remains to be noted that this wine has always remained a light, almost Burgundy-like drop and skillfully opposes the trend of increasingly heavy and opulent red wines. - Gerardo [TS10/22]
