The Magno Megonio impresses with intense aromas of tobacco and dark berries, complemented by nuances of vanilla, fine red fruits and spicy hints. On the palate, it is dry, heavy and at the same time velvety, with a lush abundance of berries, tobacco, wood notes and subtle leafy tones. The tannin is softly integrated and blends harmoniously with a fine fruit sweetness, giving it a barely perceptible, silky structure. The long, pleasantly warm finish rounds off the experience and brings to life the remarkable potential of the rediscovered Magliocco grape variety. Gerardo's Notes: Bei Librandi ist man bemüht, neben international anerkannten Rebsorten auch einheimische Gewächse zu kultivieren und zu Spitzenweinen auszubauen. Für den Magno Megonio kommt die autochthone, kalabresische Rebsorte Magliocco zum Einsatz, welche fast vom aussterben bedroht war. Einer der ringförmigen Versuchsweinberge bei Librandi ist ausschließlich mit dieser Rebsorte bestockt und liefert die Grundlage für diesem barrique-gereiften Rotwein. Der Wein entlehnt seinen Namen von einem römischen Zenturion und deutet auf die lange Geschichte der Rebsorte hin. Von Andreas März (MERUM) sowie dem Weinführer Veronelli wurde Librandi für diesen Vorstoss ausdrücklich gelobt. Dabei bleibt zu bemerken, dass der Wein stets ein leichter, fast schon burgunderhafter Tropfen gelieben ist und sich dem Trend immer schwerer und opulenter Rotweine gekonnt entgegensetzt.
