The Magno Megonio gives itself in the aroma of tobacco, black berries and vanilla, along with fine red fruits and spices. Dry, heavy and velvety on the palate with an abundance of berries, tobacco, wood and foliage. The tannin is combined with a playful fruit sweetness, making it barely noticeable, and the finish is pleasantly warm and long. The almost extinct grape variety Magliocco has been revived and once again proves the full potential of Calabria. - Gerardo [TS06/18]

Gerardo's Notes: At Librandi, in addition to internationally recognized grape varieties, they strive to cultivate indigenous growths and develop them into top wines. For the Magno Megonio, the autochthonous Calabrian grape variety Magliocco is used, which was almost threatened with extinction. One of the ring-shaped experimental vineyards at Librandi is planted exclusively with this grape variety and provides the basis for the barrique-aged Magno Megonio. The wine borrows its name from a Roman centurion and hints at the long history of the grape variety. Librandi was expressly praised for this advance by Andreas März (MERUM) as well as the wine guide Veronelli. It remains to be noted that this wine has always remained a light, almost Burgundy-like drop and skillfully opposes the trend of increasingly heavy and opulent red wines.
