Fürst · Vernatsch Meraner DOC 2021

  The “Fürst” Vernatsch Meraner DOC from the Merano Winery is an exquisite example of how the indigenous Vernatsch grape variety can unfold its full charm in a select south-facing location. The vines grow on a steep slope above Lagundo, where the loose moraine soil and the high altitude of Merano combine to create a microclimate that promotes concentration and elegance at the same time. The grapes are hand-picked, gently processed, partially fermented in large stainless steel tanks, and then stored in large oak barrels for refinement—a process that gives the wine depth without compromising its characteristic freshness.

In the glass, this Vernatsch is a bright ruby red with subtle violet reflections, a visual harbinger of its delicate structure. The nose opens with notes of violets and red berries, accompanied by delicate almond aromas, which give the wine an elegant yet playful aroma. On the palate, this fruitiness combines with a soft texture and finely contoured tannins; the “Fürst” is charming yet stylish - a red wine that goes perfectly with South Tyrolean home cooking, sausage platters, or light meat dishes, but can also stand alone. - Gerardo [TS10/22]
