Pfeffersburger · Edelvernatsch DOC 2023

  The “Pfeffersburger” Edelvernatsch from Nals-Margreid is a characterful red wine made from the Schiava (Edelvernatsch) grape variety, which has a long tradition in South Tyrol. The grapes come from the renowned Santa Maddalena vineyard near Bolzano, where they thrive on steep, porphyry-rich soils at altitudes of 250 to 350 meters above sea level. After selective hand harvesting, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks with gentle pumping over, followed by malolactic fermentation and seven months of aging in 80hl wooden barrels. This gentle vinification preserves the freshness and elegance of the wine.

In the glass, the “Pfeffersburger” appears in a light ruby red with coppery reflections. The bouquet seduces with aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, and blueberries, accompanied by a hint of forest floor and pepper leaf. On the palate, it is fresh, juicy, and full-bodied, with a delicate almond note on the finish. The harmonious balance between fruit acidity and structure makes it a versatile accompaniment to dishes such as lamb ragout, duck breast, or savory antipasti. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
