The powerful, single-varietal Primitivo 17 comes from the renowned vineyards around Gioia del Colle and presents itself in the glass in a dense purple-red with ruby-red inclusions, which give it an impressive depth. The bouquet unfolds intensely with aromas of wild berries enveloped by floral notes. Accents of licorice and a mineral graphite note complete the aromatic profile and lend the wine additional complexity.
On the palate, this Primitivo impresses with its powerful fruit and soft tannins, which are perfectly balanced by a lively acidity. The finish is long-lasting and leaves an enchanting aftertaste that makes the aromas linger for a long time. © www.cantinepolvanera.it Filippo Cassano takes an unusually clear and honest approach to naming his Primitivo wines: instead of using fancy-sounding names, he simply names his Primitivo DOC Gioia del Colle according to the alcohol content - 14, 15, 16 and 17. Even if the exact value can vary slightly from vintage to vintage, the number always comes very close to the actual alcohol content. This sober labeling is no coincidence, but deliberately emphasizes the powerful nature of the Primitivo grape and its typical potential for high must weights.
With this reduced, almost technical naming, Cassano steers the focus away from marketing language and towards the essence of the wine itself: Expressive, concentrated Primitivo growths with depth, character and substance. Each of the wines represents a slightly different profile within the typical Primitivo style - from the accessible, juicy 14 to the dense, opulent 17.
