Merlot DOC 2018

  The Sirch Merlot from the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC growing region in Friuli appears in the glass in a deep ruby red, which takes on slight violet reflections with increasing aeration, revealing its elegant yet accessible nature. The nose is dominated by ripe dark berry fruit - blackcurrants and blackberries in particular stand out, accompanied by subtle nuances of dark chocolate and light vanilla notes, indicating a subtle wood-aged maturity. This combination gives the wine a ripe, warm and at the same time fresh aroma, combining fruit and fine spice.

On the palate, Sirch Merlot is soft and harmonious, with a velvety texture and well-balanced tannins that lend it a pleasant smoothness without obscuring the wine's character. The fruit remains present and lively, supported by a subtle minerality that subtly expresses the terroir of the gentle hills and calcareous-sandy soils of the Colli Orientali. It is particularly noteworthy that this internationally renowned grape variety has found a new home in Friuli, and especially in the Colli Orientali, where it has been thriving since the late 19th century and develops a clarity of flavor that is unmatched in this region. - Gerardo [TS10/19]
