Giuseppe Gabbas Giuseppe Gabbas

Giuseppe Gabbas | Sardinia

Giuseppe Gabbas, one of Sardinia's most important winemakers, began his winemaking career in 1974 with the planting of a ten-hectare vineyard. Even then, he consistently pursued the goal of producing high-quality wines that reflected the identity of his homeland. With great commitment and a keen sense of the interplay between nature and craftsmanship, he expanded the vineyard to a total of 20 hectares over the years. He has always remained true to his philosophy: a respectful approach to the land, coupled with deep roots in the tradition of the region.

The Gabbas winery is located in the rolling hills around Nuoro, in the heart of Sardinia. The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 240 and 350 meters above sea level, nestled in an impressive landscape at the foot of the Supramonte mountains. This privileged location favors a slow, balanced ripening of the grapes due to the natural ventilation and the large temperature differences between day and night. The soil is characterized by sandy, deep layers of weathered granite - well-drained and capable of retaining sufficient moisture even in dry periods.

In this ideal combination of climate, soil composition and altitude, Cannonau, probably Sardinia's best-known indigenous grape variety, finds perfect conditions. Giuseppe Gabbas devotes himself to it with particular dedication in order to produce wines that combine character, elegance and authenticity. In doing so, he succeeds in bringing out the typicality of the grape variety and the expression of the terroir. Gabbas' wines show a clear signature - they are powerful but always balanced, structured without being opulent, and reflect the wild, original beauty of Sardinia with every bottle. - Gerardo [TS05/25]

"Giuseppe Gabbas is a man of very few words who makes wines that have all the more to say and show an important direction in the production of Cannonau in Sardinia. Giuseppe is a true winemaker who loves the land and his vineyards. He is the winemaker par excellence." - Gambero Rosso

"Giuseppe Gabbas is an old winemaker who talks little and has the ironic look of those who have seen so much in their lives and few things ever amaze them. His winery is located a few kilometers from Oliena, in the heart of Sardinia, in a place, on the slopes of Mount Corrasi, with an unspoiled nature that expresses an almost frightening power. In this cellar we find one of the most elegant and refined expressions of the homonymous grape variety of the region, Cannonau. These are fresh but Mediterranean wines, dignified but with a wonderful flavor and a distinctive character, which have undergone an impressive stylistic growth in the last four to five years." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
