Tenute Rubino | Puglia
The name Rubino today tells a modern and exciting story tied to viticulture and to the production of current quality wines. It all begins in the mid-1980s, when the Rubino family's interest in Puglia and its natural resources finds its realization with the acquisition of various farms in Salento: Thus, a new winery was born, based on local tradition, which quickly achieved success thanks to the use of modern technologies, and whose production processes met the demands of both domestic and foreign markets. Today the winery is managed with great enthusiasm by Dr. Luigi Rubino. The planting of the vineyards and the choice of materials are in accordance with the most modern techniques and the healthy growth of the plants testifies to the commitment and experience of the winegrowers in the care of the vineyards. they are supervised by highly qualified professionals recognized at national level. - Gerardo [TS12/22]
"Four different estates, distributed around the city of Brindisi, are part of the Rubino family business. Jaddico and Marmorelle are just a few dozen meters from the sea, while the other two - Uggio and Punta Aquila - extend on the Brindisi plateau. The vines, planted at a density of between 4,000 and 6,000 canes per hectare, are mostly trained as cordon with cones, with only a small portion using the alberello principle. - Gambero Rosso

This is a story of family, a story of love for a land and its rediscovery. The sun of Puglia, the traditions of Salento, reinterpreted with a lively entrepreneurial spirit passed from father to son. A project that saw the light of day in the early 80s, in a winery founded by Tommaso Rubino, the first to recognize the modern viticultural potential of an area with such an important past. His son Luigi, assisted by his wife Romina in all aspects of marketing and communication, has taken over this entrepreneurial legacy and brings all his passion to the family business to make it an ambassador of Pugliese viticulture to the world.
The soul of Salento, the tradition of Brindisi: it is precisely in this area of Puglia that the black grape variety Susumaniello has found its ideal home. Its true origins may go back to an import from ancient Dalmatia, but to date experts have not found a definitive answer. What we do know for sure, however, is the unique character of this exceptional grape and the origin of its name.
The popularity of Susumaniello declined sharply in the early 1990s as many Pugliese winemakers were forced to explant their less productive vineyards. Luigi Rubino, a long-time connoisseur of the unique qualities of this grape variety, decided to focus his company's fortunes on rediscovering and promoting one of Puglia's most identitary varieties. It is grown on the Jaddico estate on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, 8 kilometers north of Brindisi, in a single vineyard of 20 hectares. - Gerardo [TS12/22]
