Castellare di Castellina, Tuscany
I Sodi di San Niccolo - the flagship of Castellare di Castellina - comes from the vineyard around the church of San Niccolo: this almost pure Sangioveto (Sangiovese) is complemented with Malvasia Nera, both from vines almost 30 years old. The color is an intense ruby red with garnet highlights. The aroma is fruity and reminiscent of wild berries, underlined by spices and some vanilla. This wine reached the top 100 of Wine Specator magazine several times and also received the coveted award of 3 glasses in the wine guide Gambero Rosso.
Barren soils are a basic requirement for high quality wines. Therefore, the sites where the vine has to fight for water and food are the most sought-after for Tuscan winemakers. The sites called 'i sodi' are in complete contrast to the 'campi', the fields. On the 'sodi' grow the most dense and refined wines. - Gerardo [TS11/18]
"The 2013 I Sodi di S. Niccolo is 85% Sangioveto (a more antique name for Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera from a single vineyard. The wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance and shows ruby, garnet and purple highlights. The bouquet is powerful but seamless at the same time with smooth transitions between dark cherry, spice, tobacco and moist clay. In the mouth, this wine shows dense extraction, but it never feels weighed down by that mass. Instead, the freshness of the fruit and the natural acidity give the wine a bright and buoyant personality. Aged in barrique for 30 months, this is a delightful Tuscan red." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Sparkling ruby with a slight garnet edge. Opens with light green spicy components, coriander seed and white pepper, then it juicy cherry, some plum. On the palate lots of fine-mesh tannin with a firm core, builds in many layers, juicy cherry and fine herbal spice, firm pressure." - Falstaff

Eredi Fuligni, Tuscany
Fuligni's Brunello matures, as required by law, for 4 years, of which two, sometimes even three years, in wood. This Brunello has the characteristic of excellent longevity, but is also accessible for early enjoyment. The Brunello of Fuligni is an elegant synthesis of fruit scent and spice. This wine is the result of high quality grapes, coming from low yields per hectare and produced in small quantities only in good years. - Gerardo [TS06/18]
"Classic ruby red with a tendency to garnet. The aromas on the nose are clear and powerful, of tobacco, conifer, cherries and medlars. The palate is of medium texture, with lean tannins and good acidity. Elegant wine with an intense finish." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
"Bright, powerful ruby with a pronounced garnet rim. Opens with light malty notes, then ripe plums, some dried porcini mushrooms and tomatoes, multilayered. Opens on the palate with hearty, dense tannins, firm and deep, salty and long in the finish." - Falstaff
"Tart, fairly deep, nutty and somewhat tobacco-like nose, predominantly dark fruit with dried floral nuances and moderate oak spice. Firm, concentrated, tart, juicy fruit with nutty wood aromas, a hint of roasting, tobacco and some cocoa, dried vegetal nuances in the background, a hint of pepper, game, some sandy, still slightly drying tannin, has power, good persistence, noticeable bite, certain depth, still completely undeveloped, very good, firm, again tart, juicy and spicy, also slightly tobacco finish. Absolutely needs to mature." - Wein-Plus.eu

Complex and juicy on the palate, with present tannins and a spicy finish. Cellaring recommended! - Gerardo [TS06/18]
"The Bricco Sarmassa sets out on a broader, more open, more dazzling aromatic offensive with smoky, floral and spice-refined notes." - Gambero Rosso

Fasoli Gino, Veneto
Intense ruby color, nose present aromas of plum and rum pot, typical of dried grapes. Harmoniously combines spicy notes with hints of ripe red fruit. The fine and persistent tannins balance the high alcohol content and provide an overall very persistent finish.
The history of Pinot Noir Sande dates back to the late 80s. The extremely low yields due to the cultivation create a grape material that has an exceptionally high concentration of sugar and aromas. Subsequent grape drying further concentrates the full aromatic potential of the fruit, creating a unique wine in its category. - Gerardo [TS05/14]

Dense, concentrated crimson color with bright violet hues. Aroma of blackberries, violets and spicy herbs. Full and rich palate with amazing minerality and high density tannin structure. Persistent finish. - Gerardo [TS04/19]
"The decision to cultivate the Teroldego vine happened more or less by chance, but not the procurement of selected clones from the house of Elisabetta Foradori, the 'patron goddess' of this variety. Today, in any case, this wine convinces with aromatic richness and solid taste." - Gambero Rosso

Muri Gries, South Tyrol
The color shows an intense dark garnet red. On the nose complex and multilayered of cherries and barberries, mixed with spicy notes of tobacco and leather. On the palate of convincing structure combined with finesse, character, velvety and extract. Probably one of the most authentic and successful interpretations of the autochthonous South Tyrolean grape variety Lagrein. - Gerardo [TS06/22]

Planeta, Sicily
"The back label of the two Didacus wines - the white from Chardonnay, the red from Cabernet Franc - reads: 'This bottle contains our vision of wine. Elegance and tradition. Family and future. Sicily as we have always dreamed of it.' Menfi and its vineyards between the sea and the hills, as a place of choice for growing French varieties - almost a Bolgheri of the South - is a vision that has accompanied the Planeta family since the mid-1980s." - Falstaff
"The 2017 Cabernet Franc Didacus is dark, deep and intense, with arching blue florals giving way to masses of currants, plums and licorice. It’s silky with a dense wave of mineral-tinged black fruits carried across a core of motivating acidity that lifts the expression nicely. This leaves tart wild berries, along with hints of mocha over a coating of sweet tannins, coming across as structured yet also remarkably fresh. The heat of the vintage has pushed the volume up on the 2017 Cabernet Franc Didacus and while more-classic vintages will likely outpace it in the cellar over time, the balance here is beautiful." - Vinous

Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona, Tuscany
The Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso is produced only in the best vintages and exclusively from grapes grown in the Pianrosso vineyards. It is the wine that has always represented the terroir and the name of the winery:
The Galestro soils contribute significantly to the flavors, which are reminiscent of ripe red berry fruits and are complemented by different, spicy aromas. Harmonious on the palate with pronounced tannins, full-bodied and with a more persistent flavor and aroma. - Gerardo [TS02/20]
"Ruby red with garnet reflections. Aromas on the nose with classic notes of pink and black salt and red fruits. Powerful on the palate, with still youthful and crisp tannins and a medium texture that marks the progression. Powerful and extreme in its classicism." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
"Finely drawn, appealing nose with clear notes of rosehip, crisp cherries, some blood orange and clove. Opens on the palate with pithy, gripping tannins, flows calmly, with a lovely sweet melting texture as it progresses, very good tension, salty and long." - Falstaff
