I Sodi di S. Niccolò · IGT 2017

I Sodi di San Niccolo - the flagship of Castellare di Castellina - comes from the vineyard around the church of San Niccolo: this almost pure Sangioveto (Sangiovese) is complemented with Malvasia Nera, both from vines almost 30 years old. The color is an intense ruby red with garnet highlights. The aroma is fruity and reminiscent of wild berries, underlined by spices and some vanilla. This wine reached the top 100 of Wine Specator magazine several times and also received the coveted award of 3 glasses in the wine guide Gambero Rosso.

Barren soils are a basic requirement for high quality wines. Therefore, the sites where the vine has to fight for water and food are the most sought-after for Tuscan winemakers. The sites called 'i sodi' are in complete contrast to the 'campi', the fields. On the 'sodi' grow the most dense and refined wines. - Gerardo [TS11/18]

"The 2013 I Sodi di S. Niccolo is 85% Sangioveto (a more antique name for Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera from a single vineyard. The wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance and shows ruby, garnet and purple highlights. Sande · Pinot-Nero IGT 2013

Intense ruby color, nose present aromas of plum and rum pot, typical of dried grapes. Harmoniously combines spicy notes with hints of ripe red fruit. The fine and persistent tannins balance the high alcohol content and provide an overall very persistent finish.

The history of Pinot Noir Sande dates back to the late 80s. The extremely low yields due to the cultivation create a grape material that has an exceptionally high concentration of sugar and aromas.
