The Caparzo vineyards: variety and quality
The Caparzo vineyard covers around 90 hectares in the picturesque municipality of Montalcino. The diversity of grape varieties and locations characterizes the image of this extraordinary winery. The vineyards include 9 hectares of Brunello, 3 hectares of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Traminer, as well as smaller plots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosso di Montalcino, Sangiovese Sant'Antimo and Moscadello. The hilly landscape of Caparzo lies at an altitude of around 220 meters, with a south-southeast exposure. The soil is sedimentary and sandy-loamy, a remnant of the Pliocene, and offers ideal conditions for growing first-class grapes.

Exclusive sites for Brunello
The specific sites for Brunello are particularly noteworthy. In the village of La Casa, the grapes grow on 5 hectares at an altitude of 275 meters on a slate-clay subsoil known as marlstone. Another top location, La Caduta, lies at an altitude of 300 meters and is characterized by loose, skeleton-rich slate soil. Both sites contribute significantly to the outstanding quality of Caparzo's Brunello wines.

Diversity and innovation in San Piero-Caselle
The San Piero-Caselle vineyard is located south-east of Montalcino. At an altitude of 250 meters, 2.5 hectares of Brunello, 15 hectares of Sangiovese, 2.5 hectares of Merlot and further plots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Colorino are planted here. The harvest time for the white grapes usually begins in early September, while the red grapes are picked towards the end of the month. Caparzo attaches great importance to harvesting the varieties separately, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese Grosso, in order to ensure ideal ripeness and quality.

Tradition and modern cellar technology
In the wine cellar, craftsmanship and modern technology come together. White grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented in small 350-liter oak barrels. The wine then matures for twelve months in the same barrels to develop its complexity. For the red grapes, fermentation begins at a controlled temperature and lasts around eight days, with the cap of marc being regularly pumped over and pressed down to achieve optimal extraction of aromas and colors.

Sustainability and clonal innovation
Caparzo does not stand still, but continuously tests innovative cultivation systems and clonal selections in order to better exploit the potential of the vineyards. The winery covers a total of 200 hectares, of which 90 hectares are planted with vines. A further 87 hectares consist of forests, while olive groves and arable land make up the remaining area.

A legacy of tradition and excellence
For more than four decades, Caparzo has stood for the highest quality and attention to detail. With a unique blend of respect for the Brunello tradition and a creative spirit that encourages innovation, the winery has made a name for itself in the international wine world. Caparzo wines can now be found in the world's most prestigious restaurants and are served at official state dinners - proof of their outstanding reputation.
