The first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino Caparzo dates back to 1970, a time when the situation of the appellation was completely different from today. At that time, there were only 13 wineries in Montalcino, making Caparzo one of the historic wineries in Brunello production. The special feature of Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino is certainly the origin of the Sangiovese.

The winery is in fact one of the few wineries in Montalcino that owns vineyards in the different geographical zones of the production area. What may appear to be a simple detail is in fact an important asset, as the different vineyard locations allow Caparzo to make the most of the different microclimates and terroirs in Montalcino. The grapes harvested from the vineyards scattered throughout the area are carefully selected to create the conditions for a complex wine that combines all the characteristics that make Brunello one of the most appreciated wines in the world. - Gerardo [TS11/20]

"Bright ruby red. Expressive and clear on the nose, of cherries and oranges, rose hips, with a grated pepper finish. Gripping on the palate, with grippy, juicy tannins, also shows shy red berry fruit, with fine earthy notes on the finish." - Falstaff

Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino is one of the region's historic wines, as the first vintage bottling dates back to 1970, a time when Montalcino had just 13 wineries. What makes this wine special is the origin of the Sangiovese grapes: Caparzo owns vineyards in all four geographical zones of Montalcino. This unique diversity of locations makes it possible to make the most of the different microclimates and soils, resulting in an exceptionally complex wine that embodies the essence of the Brunello style.

The grapes come from four privileged locations: Caparzo (north, 220 m), La Caduta (south-west, 300 m), Il Cassero (south, 270 m) and San Piero-Caselle (east, 250 m). Each region contributes to the complexity of the wine with its specific terroir - from sandy-clay to slate soils.

Careful manual harvesting is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation with prolonged skin contact to ensure maximum extraction of aromas and tannins. The wine is aged for at least two years in wood and four months in the bottle.

In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red that turns garnet red with age. The bouquet is intense and complex, with notes of forest fruits and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is dry, warm, harmonious and at the same time powerful, with a long, persistent finish. Thanks to its ageing potential of over 30 years, Brunello is an ideal accompaniment to game, roasts and mature cheeses. A true classic that combines the best of Montalcino. - Gerardo [TS11/20]
