Curtis · Cabernet-Merlot DOC 2023

  The “Curtis” Cabernet-Merlot from the Kurtatsch Winery is an elegant cuvée of Merlot and Cabernet varieties that combines the terroir of South Tyrol's lowlands with subtle Bordeaux inspiration. The name ‘Curtis’ is reminiscent of the Latin word for “farm” and is also a tribute to the origins of the village of Kurtatsch. The vines are rooted on south-east-facing slopes with sandy and loamy soils, interspersed with dolomite and clay minerals, which give the blend structure and character. According to the producer, the wine is made from around 60% Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon - a combination that brings together richness, spice, and depth.

In the glass, Curtis appears dense ruby red with violet reflections and exudes an aroma bouquet of black currants, ripe forest plums, and a fine herbal and peppery spice that gives the Cabernet component its voice. On the palate, it impresses with its smooth texture, balanced structure, and well-integrated fruit—the Merlot component provides velvety depth, while the Cabernet components bring clarity and elegance. This wine is a stylish accompaniment to red meat or game dishes and, at the same time, an example of how South Tyrolean viticulture can reinterpret classic French grape varieties with an Alpine foundation. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
