Various small vineyards on gravelly soils with clay content at 250 - 350 meters above sea level are included in Cabernet 'Kirchhügel'. Even in decidedly sunny years, Cabernet 'Kirchhügel' does not become bulky and broad. A typical Unterlandler acidic nerve gives the muscular body sinew and impressive staying power in the bottle. If you are patient with Cabernet 'Kirchhügel', you will be rewarded with exciting tertiary aromas after extended bottle aging, reminiscent of an oriental tea ceremony: cedar, suede, tobacco, toasted hazelnut, cookie and dried blackberries. - Gerardo [TS07/18]
Gerardo's Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were introduced to South Tyrol in the second half of the 19th century. In Kurtatsch, the best red vineyards have always been considered to be those slopes from which snow and frost have retreated early. On these gravelly soils with a light clay content, the daytime warmth lasts for a long time even in autumn. There, the late-ripening and therefore demanding Cabernet Sauvignon can fully develop its delicate fruit (blackcurrants, blackberries, crushed elderberries) and the spicy Cabernet Franc its spicy and herbal aromas (pepper, peppermint).
