Rieser · St. Magdalener DOC 2024

  The “Rieser” St. Magdalener from Nals-Margreid is a classic South Tyrolean red wine, made from 90% indigenous Schiava grapes and 10% Lagrein. The grapes come from the steep, porphyry-rich slopes around the wine village of St. Magdalena near Bolzano, at an altitude of 250 to 350 meters above sea level. The Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, as well as the good ventilation of the soils, create ideal conditions for these grape varieties. After selective hand harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with gentle pumping over. The wine then matures for seven months in 80hl wooden barrels, which gives it structure and complexity.

In the glass, the “Rieser” St. Magdalener presents itself in a bright ruby red with delicate garnet red reflections. The bouquet is fresh and fruity, with aromas of red berries such as raspberries and currants, as well as a hint of cherries. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious, with mild tannins and a lively acidity structure. The finish is pleasant and long-lasting. This wine is ideal with light dishes such as ham, cheese, risotto, or pasta with tomato sauce. It should be served at 16-18°C and stored in a cool place at 10-13°C to allow its aging potential to develop optimally. - Gerardo [TS10/25]
