Anticaia · Negroamaro Salento IGT 2024

  The “Anticaia Salento Negroamaro” from the Cantina San Donaci cooperative is a passionate expression of Apulia's warm wine country: it is made exclusively from the indigenous Negroamaro grape variety, cultivated on sandy and clay-rich soils around the town of San Donaci. Aged in stainless steel tanks, its style remains fresh and typical of the variety, but also with the necessary substance that does justice to the depth typical of this variety. The name “Anticaia” symbolically refers to the past and origin - a wine that stands with both feet in Salento, without compromise.

In the glass, this wine shines in a deep ruby red with violet reflections, a visual indication of its intensity. The nose is carried by dark forest berries, black cherries, and blackberries, complemented by balsamic herbs from the Mediterranean maquis and round notes of tobacco, licorice, and hints of nutmeg. On the palate, Anticaia displays a harmonious structure: well-integrated tannins provide depth, the fruit remains juicy and lively, and the finish is warm and lingering - a compelling accompaniment to grilled meat, pasta with a rich sauce, or mature cheese. - Gerardo [TS10/25]
