Primius · Primitivo di Manduria DOP 2021

  The single-varietal Primius Primitivo di Manduria from Cantina San Donaci is a powerful ambassador for the Apulian terroir. Made from the ancient Primitivo grape variety, it is rooted in the sun-kissed, limestone- and clay-rich soils of the Manduria region, where the vines are trained using the traditional Alberello system. After being harvested by hand, refined by aging in used French barriques and then bottle-aged, this wine combines origin, grape variety and style into an impressive whole.

In the glass, the wine unfolds in a deep ruby red with garnet reflections—a visual promise of depth and maturity. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe wild berries, black cherry, and dried figs, accompanied by well-placed spice notes such as cinnamon, clove, and cocoa. On the palate, Primius is both powerful and balanced: softly integrated tannins and a velvety texture carry the dense fruit, while the finish is characterized by elegant spice and a long aftertaste.
