Simone Capecci | Marche
The historical records of the municipality of Ripatransone show that Serafino Capecci was already cultivating the vineyards that today form the heart of the Simone Capecci winery in 1905. His work laid the foundations for a family tradition spanning generations that continues to this day. In 1974, his son Vincenzo Domenico took over the inheritance and continued his father's life's work with dedication. A new stage in the history of the estate began in 1988: the bottling and marketing of typical regional wines such as Rosso Piceno, Falerio and Passerina marked the beginning of a visible rise.
Today, the winery is managed by Simone Capecci, who builds a bridge between tradition and modernity with a feel for the past and the future. His work is characterized by a deep connection to the land and a consistent focus on research and innovation. The focus is on rediscovering indigenous grape varieties that were once cultivated by the ‘Piceni’, the early settlers of the Ascoli Piceno region. In addition to Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Passerina, particular attention is paid to the almost forgotten Pecorino grape variety, whose potential Simone Capecci is passionate about tapping into.
The estate's vineyards extend across the core area of Rosso Piceno Superiore and are located in the gently undulating hills of Offida, Ripatransone and Acquaviva, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. Surrounded by forests, olive groves and the wild, deeply incised gorges of the region, the vines thrive on sunny slopes facing south-east, between the courses of the Tesino and Tronto rivers. The microclimate, influenced by the proximity to the sea and the protection of the Sibillini mountains, creates ideal conditions for expressive, terroir-driven wines.
Today, the Capecci family cultivates around 25 hectares - more than half of which are planted with red grape varieties. A significant proportion of the vines are over 35 years old and contribute to the characterful depth of the wines. What distinguishes the San Savino winery is not only its location or the diversity of grape varieties, but above all the living combination of history, nature and craftsmanship - an awareness of quality that is firmly rooted in the soil of the Marche region. - Gerardo [TS04/25]
"As a winemaker, Simone Capecci has the sensitivity to translate traditional stylistic devices into a modern form without unnatural interventions. His wines are the result of the sunny slopes of Contrada Ciafone, one of the best sites in the whole Piceno, where Capecci was born and raised. Finding one's own style takes time, sensitivity, the ability to learn from others and, ultimately, a willingness to make sacrifices where spending the majority of one's time between barrels and vines no longer matters. After all, that does pay off in the end." - Gambero Rosso
